EXP1: The stair

TWO

EIGHT STAIR SKETCHES

Below are scanned copies of my stair sketches. The concept of 'resolute' is continued through he several stair sketches, maintaining a general similarity, though differing in design. Similarly,I was choosing between the concept of ;flourish' and 'sovereign'( developed from the same artwork). After consideration,I chose to develop a stair based of 'flourish'.

SKETCHES & SECTION

This is the sketch for the 'flourish' concept I decided to develop into sketchup.

RESOLUTE STAIRS

These are the stairs i developed form the 'resolute' concept. The staircase consist of a series of independent blocks which vary in height to combine and create a block of stairs which provide a varying experience and undefined ascension path. I chose to develop these stairs for Bougeiours as the undefined path contributes to the versatility of the stair and will cater to the larger/ irregular shaped artworks to display within the studio.

FLOURISH STAIRS

These are the stairs section I decided upon. The stairs are housed by a glass cassing, and the stairs trapper towards the bottom- so as to appear suspended. There is a varying use of glass to experiment with materiality. I designed this stair with a wide center to cater to the large size of Weiwei's artworks. Furthermore, the wide center allows for his installations of greater height to pass through and sit comfortably in the studio space with ease.
