EXP1: Spaces

EIGHTEEN SKETCHES

These are eighteen section sketches of separate spaces inspired by words relating to specific artworks. Initially, I experimented with the literal meaning of the word. Progressively, I  found that the figurative meaning of the word enabled a wider exploration of the concept and produced more innovative and original ideas.

CONCEPT SKETCH

This is the concept sketch which I chose to develop in Google Sketchup. the upper space is a series of cubes arranged in a stacked fashion.I decided on using a combination of timber and glass for the upper studio section.  The lower space is a group of cylindrical tubes to tapper towards the bottom. The most suitable material for the underground space would be concrete.

Above ground : Resolute
Below ground: Sovereign

SKETCH UP ATEMPT

Below is my first attempt at using Sketchup to develop a building. The lower space resulted in a more open space which invited the use of glass- however I am uncertain about the material's suitability in terms of context. Hopefully as my skills develop in using the program, i will be able to create more elaborate spaces.
